Cremated Remains- Can they be identified?

When the body was given to the crematorium the deceased had a identification tag attached as a way of identifying the remains. This was accomplished to be able to give back to the families the remains of their loved ones. The crematorium has to keep detailed record of all remains given to them to cremate.

Information included in the records would be: the name of the deceased, mortuary/funeral home, age, sex, height, weight, time of delivery. When the cremains are given back to the legal representative it is recorded the name of person received, date, time.

After a cremation takes place the only way to identify the remains of a loved one is by the identification tag that is part of the cremains. Also the container the remains/ashes are placed into should have some basic information on it in regard to who is in the container.
